Sigmund Freud captivated crowds with his theory that dreams are manifestations of suppressed desires. A more popular consensus is that dreams have a purpose, largely connected to our emotions. Dreams seem to help us process emotions by encoding and constructing memories of them—or perhaps they simply serve as a kind of data dump, clearing the day’s useless memories and caching the valuable ones. Whatever they are, we do not truly know. But the mystery of dreams has inspired me to document countless dreams. Here are a few, curated from my ongoing documentary series, Dreams.
